Watch of the Week 18

Welcome to this Watch of the Week !

If you’re on socials you must have seen the latest PHP drama : Laravel is evil and harmful. 😱 I’ve been a Symfony enjoyer since the beginning, but I don’t think that any framework is wrong by design. Brent wrote about it on his blog and I found the footnote Laravel at scale from Fathom fascinating.

Another awesome read I’ve stumbled upon this week is Prime Video Tech blog’s “Scaling up the Prime Video audio/video monitoring service and reducing costs by 90%. It talks about microservices and monoliths 👀

Discord’s co-founder Stanislav Vishnevskiy released an article about the way they will be evolving usernames on Discord and it treats about technical and product debt and how they will handle it in the very near future.

And to wrap it up, Symfony published a blog article about performance improvements in the upcoming 6.3 release of Symfony and in combination with Symfony UX 2.8 (see the thread below from Ryan Weaver), I cannot wait to live on the edge and try all those new things !

See you next week ! ✌🏼
